another specialty of India is joint family I believe. I am a great supporter of a well functioning joint family. It has some great advantages if the adults of the family act mature and a little unselfishly.

In today’s world where every woman wants to have a career even after having kids, imagine a family where you wont have to look for nanny, governesses, in place of that your mother in law will take care of your child and bring him or her up with really good values.

In a world where retirement means nightmare, think of a world where your son and daughter in law will happily share the burden of those days, and not only that will like to have you in their every day life as a mentor, guide.

You wont have to worry about spending your days in an old age home, alone, waiting for death, they wont have to fear about what their kid is facing at home or day school as they are running for higher posts.

I personally believe that if we slice down our selfishness and respect our family members joint family can work out even today, and for betterment of ourselves.

btw, a lot of north indian famillies are still joint, and not all of them are miserable or are keen to announce that it doesnot works, nuclear famillies are best!

  1. I like the idea, although it’s so different from the culture I’m used to. It would seem weird to have my parents living with me, now that I’ve been away from home for so long. I would like to have them close by though.
