Just ninety kilometer away from Allahabad, Alwara Taal, a natural depression that fills up with the water of Yamuna during monsoon months and spreads upto 700 hectares, where 1200 birds of 55 species were observed within four hours of study is awaiting an acknowledge from government- that of a bird sanctuary!
Till then it’s the hunting ground of poachers, and other natural semi natural destructive forces like alarming spread of weeds, high input of chemical fertilizers.
The good sign is quite a good number of local people are keen to keep it alive and turn it into a bird observatory.
Lets wish them luck!
